TAGGED FISH ALERT

Attention all Fishers:
The ADFG and other fisheries agencies occasionally tag fish, sharks, and
crab to estimate population size, assess migration habits, or to identify
animals of known-age. At present there are tags (T-bar, dart, spaghetti tags)
which may appear in sablefish (projects by ADFG, NMFS, CDFO),
lingcod (ADFG), halibut (IPHC),pollock (ADFG), black rockfish (ADFG),
sharks (ADFG, NMFS), or crabs (ADFG). Tag recovery information is
important for the success of research on these animals.
If you recover a tagged specimen, note any special handling instructions on
the tag. For example, Whole fish reward-DO NOT REMOVE TAG;
these fish should be taken to your nearest ADFG office. Chill or freeze them
to prevent tissue decomposition. Note the following information whether
needing to submit the whole fish or only the tag: capture date and location,
and fish fork length. Call the contact phone number on the tag or the local
ADFG office for further information, or to facilitate getting the information
to the tagging agency/office. If you would like information about your tagged
fish, include your name and address. Your cooperation is much appreciated!
Tag reward details are project dependant, and eligibility is based upon
receipt of complete information or whole fish (if specified).
